John Woodhouse

Shoreham Harbour with Dredger

Description

A blue-hulled hopper dredger flying the Red Ensign, slowly navigates into the tidal part of Shoreham harbour, with a grey RNLI lifeboat-house, with the lifeboat visible on the slipway. Red-roofed cottages, and a wooden jetty are also visible under a bright, cloudy sky. Also visible to the right is the Shoreham Lighthouse that marks the main entry to the harbour.

The harbour connects to the English Channel and was used on D Day to transport equipment and troops to France to assist in the Allies liberation of Europe.
