The Last Voyage

On Batam Island, part of the Indonesian free trade area with Singapore, an abandoned lauch is moored on the sandy shore beneath dramatic storm clouds and turbulent sky.

Behind the boat on the horizon is the area where parts for the oil and gas platforms and ship repairs are undertaken. This was moved from Singapore to Batam to allow the high tech industries to take the space in Singapore.

At the time the picture was taken the Asian financial markets had suffered a major financial crisis from 1998 to 2000
