Water Leak Repair

Description

A Hampshire rural lane close to the South Downs National Park is reduced to single way traffic due to repairs to a water service connection.

The warning signs and traffic lights are due to it being at a junction with another road, where due to the way the lane meanders along former field boundaries, drivers cannot see very far.

The work was to fix a single leak on a domestic service connection, but illustrates the problems the all water companies have in carrying out repars to these leaks, which across Europe account for around 20 percent of the water supply.

In this case the water leak was not visible and took several months of searching to locate using smart meters. Unfortunatley, many homes in Britain refuse to have water meters fitted, which adds to the problems and cost of water leak detection.
