Sabah the Land Below the Wind

Description

Sabah in East Malaysia is known as "The Land Below the Wind", because it is below the typhoon zone that hits the countries to the north.

Picture is viewed from the waterfront across the peaceful harbour at Kota Kinabalu looking West towards the South China Sea.

Note the calm ocean. At certain times of the year the wind does not blow across the ocean or land. This is the period the early sailors called "The Doldrums", because the sailing ships could not move.

Sabah has a rich biodiversity that is a testament to its unique position, with species that are a noted by conservationists and researchers alike.
