Gatwick Express

Description

Travelling on the "Up Line" to Brighton the colourful carriages of the Gatwick Express pull away from Worthing. The nearest platform in view is the "Down Line" to Portsmouth and Southampton from London and Brighton.

The original station was opened in November 1845 by the Brighton and Chichester Railway when the railway ran between Worthing and Shoreham, connecting the town to the local airport at Shoreham. The original station buildings are now Grade II listed.

The station is now under the stewardship of Southern and looks considerably better than in the Government cost cutting days of British Rail.
