Singapore a Garden City

Description

Looking from Beach Road across Kampong Glam, which includes the Malay Heritage Site, the rows of 19th century retail traders shophouses are visible amongst the foliage in the foreground, along with the modern high-rise buildings and construction cranes clearly visible in the background.

HPB (Health Promotion Board) means that buildings are designed to promote healthy lifestyles by incorporating features like accessible facilities, healthy food options, and spaces encouraging physical activity; however, there is no single, identifiable "HPB building" as the certification applies to various structures across Singapore, including workplaces, schools, and community centres, rather than specific buildings with a dedicated HPB branding.

These buildings are also designed to have a low carbon footprint including low water usage. It was the loss of control of the water supply from Johor that caused the Allied Army to surrendering the Singapore Garrison to the Imperial Japanese Army in 1942, not the way the ports guns were facing as the press reported, as Singapore at that time received all its water from Johore in what is now Malaysia. Singaporeans have remembered this and treat potable water as precious.
