Buddhist memorial to former colleagues

At the former Vietnamese boat people's village in Batam, Indonesia the tropical rain forest is still kept in check around this memorial to family and colleagues who did not survive the journey. The inscription on the memorial gives the name of the person and their date of birth. Plants, offerings and incense are still placed on the alter by the local Indonesians. It is likely that some Buddhists will return each year to show respect for their departed family members.
